OHIO COALITION OF DOG ADVOCATES
Speaking out for our best friends

House Bill 14

OCDA board members, Dawn Stretar and Jean Keating were all smiles while waiting to watch the Governor sign House Bill 14. Thanks to their hard work and dedication breed discrimination in Ohio has come to an end.

Two paws up for Best Friends Animal Society and Ledy VanKavage for helping OCDA make this dream come true!

A big thank you to Representative Barbara Sears for Sponsoring House Bill 14.

On January 11, 2011 the former House Bill 79 was reintroduced into the Ohio House of Representatives.  House Bill 79 removed the term "pit bull" from the Ohio Revised Code's definition of vicious dog.  Ohio is the only state that has breed discriminatory language in it's code. House Bill 79 overwhelmingly passed through the Ohio House of Representatives in late spring, when it was added to House Bill 55 in 2010.  The bill became stalled in the Senate and "died" at the end of 2010.  It is now Amended House Bill 14 (http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/bills.cfm?ID=129_HB_14) .
